OUR PRACTICE

Breast Surgery

The prospect of breast cancer often raises a number of questions for patients and families. We partner with you from the very beginning in order to help educate patients, spouses and family members about the sometimes complex management questions. It is our goal to help answer your questions and guide you through the process, from initial physical exam and diagnosis to surgery (including breast conservation options) and determining the need for any additional therapies. We have partnered with some of the best Medical and Radiation Oncologists in the region as well as Plastic/Reconstructive surgeons to make sure that you get the right treatments at the right time, with the best outcomes.

Skin Conditions and Wound Care

Here in the South, we like our sunshine, but it comes with risks, including the development of skin cancers such as melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. Most lesions are dealt with on an outpatient setting, letting you get back to life quickly. We have expertise in both simple and complex wound closures to provide you with the best cosmetic result as well.

For those with chronic wounds due to diabetes or vascular complications, we provide access to chronic wound management and hyperbaric oxygen therapy through our neighboring wound clinic, and negative pressure wound treatments and surgical debridement when needed.

Hernias

Hernias can be debilitating, limiting your activity due to pain or increasing size. In some cases, they can cause emergencies due to unrelenting pain or obstruction of the intestines. Most hernias are readily treatable and many can be repaired in a minimally invasive fashion (either laparoscopically or robotically). The majority of hernias do not recur after they are repaired and many times the patient can go home the day of surgery. Others may require a short hospital stay.

Diseases of the Gastrointestinal Tract

We treat a broad spectrum of diseases of the biliary system, colon and small bowel.

  • Appendicitis (infection of the appendix)

  • Gallstones (gallbladder stones)

  • Colon Cancer

  • Rectal Cancer

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis)

  • Diverticulitis

  • Hemorrhoids and other Anorectal diseases

Upper Endoscopy and Colonoscopy

From screening and surveillance colonoscopies to upper endoscopy for evaluation of upper gastrointestinal disorders, Amory Surgery Clinic provides the procedures and expertise necessary to diagnose and treat a broad range of GI disorders from swallowing difficulty and ulcers to diverticulitis and gastrointestinal bleeding.

Vascular Disease

The development of vascular disease is a systemic process. Often, those with a history of heart disease will also have symptoms of peripheral vascular disease, such as pain in calves or thighs when walking, or chronic wounds in the lower extremities. Frequently, these conditions can be treated with bypass of the clogged arteries in the legs. Additionally, this same process can increase your stroke risk by occluding the arteries that feed your brain. The reduction in risk is drastically reduced by surgical intervention.
